This tour is named after the stunningly patterned Thomas Leaf Monkey with its distinctive Mohawk, which is unique to the forests of Gunung Leseur National Park on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. This amazing tour will delight your senses as you experience the sights and sounds of village life and the fascinating flora and fauna of the jungle.

Your seven-day adventure begins with a drive to Tangkahan, the hidden paradise of Sumatra, but also an inspiring example of community-based ecotourism, where former illegal loggers are gaining their livelihoods from the beauty of the forest. On the way, you experience the colours and smells of village markets and are greeted by the smiling faces of the Karonese people, well-known for chewing betel nut, their regal dancing, and large marriage ceremonies.

Over the next few days, your mode of transport is by river tube, elephant back, and motorbike. As you travel down the Buluh River, you will seek out secluded caves and swim in waterfalls and at beaches, all the while looking out for wildlife. You will feast on traditional food and learn how to cook the Karonese way. At Bukit Lawang, you will spend a day getting up close to the orang-utans, as you observe them in their natural habitats.

This memorable, fun adventure is sure to expose you to marvels rarely seen—truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
