Venture into the Heart of Borneo

10-Day Live among the Dayaks to experience their traditional lifestyle and trek in ancient rainforests where you may discover wild orangutans.

From A$1,735 per person

Live among the Dayaks to experience their traditional lifestyle and to observe their culture and learn about the history. Venture into the largest floodplain in Asia, and trek through some of the oldest rainforest in the world aiming to discover wild orangutans.

This trip explores Betung Kerihun and Danau Sentarum, two national parks in West Kalimantan within the Heart of Borneo rainforest.
Your Borneo adventure begins with travel by car from Kapuas Hulu. Trek though the world’s oldest rainforest to Betung Kerihun National Park. Discover the wild landscapes of Indonesia’s second largest protected area in Kalimantan after Kayan Mentarang. It shares common border with Sarawak (Malaysian Borneo). The terrain is mostly hilly and mountainous.

Betung Kerihun National Park represents some of the last remaining natural habitats of Kalimantan, including lowland Dipterocarp forest, montane forest and swamp forest. It is home to thousands of different plant and animal species. Many of them are endemic to Kalimantan such as the endangered Orangutan, Muller’s Borneon Gibbon and Maroon Leaf Monkey.

Live among the Dayaks to experience their traditional lifestyle and to observe their culture and learn about the history. Venture further to explore the largest floodplain in Asia, Danau Sentarum National Park, also a Ramsar site. The park is a series of interconnected seasonal lakes in the floodplain of the upper Kapuas River. The lakes support a large traditional fishing industry. Your trek directly benefits the villagers in the area, for they provide services for the boat, the trek and homestay.
