Conservation Overview

Raw Wildlife Encounters is actively involved in conserving natural environments for future generations to enjoy. We believe in fostering responsible tourism that
benefits the local people and wildlife in all our travel destinations. We also do what we can to assist indigenous communities to preserve their habitats.
Inspired and guided by Founder Director, Jessica McKelson, Raw Wildlife Encounters has embarked upon a number of programs in North Sumatra where the local community once illegally logged the forests of Tangkahan and hunted the wildlife for financial gain. Upon seeing the damage they were causing to their forest home,
the community made the remarkable and inspirational decision to become custodians of the forest and protect what they once consumed.
In 2001, the loggers threw away their chainsaws for eco-tourism and became forest guides, rangers and educators, helping to patrol and protect an area of
astonishing beauty and environmental significance.
